Skip has been playing and working around boats all his life. His love of the water took him to college at the University of Washington where he studied Oceanography then on to the US Navy for a career as a Surface Line Officer. Skip served sea tours on a frigate, hydrofoil, destroyer, and Aegis cruiser in several different parts of the world.

After retiring early from the Navy, Skip moved his family to Anacortes to enjoy their sailboat and time with each other. After a few years ashore the ocean called Skip back as he sat for the Merchant Marine licensing exams and went to work as Mate and Skipper for the high seas factory trawlers in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Island fisheries. He later served as cargo officer / navigator on small cargo ships running up the inside passage making fourteen round trips from Seattle to Alaska. Dropping his anchor ashore once again, Skip took a position in marketing / business development for a software company that made electronic charting software and computers. Skip's knowledge of boats, water, parts, and "how to get things done" makes him the perfect man for the job at Marine Servicenter.
